Touched by Type 1 Scholarship Application
At Touched by Type 1, we believe type 1 diabetes should never stand in the way of a student's future.
The Touched by Type 1 Scholarship Program recognizes graduating high school seniors living with type 1 diabetes who have demonstrated resilience, leadership, and a commitment to making a difference. More than a scholarship, this program is an opportunity to join a nationwide community of young leaders who are passionate about raising awareness, supporting others, and creating lasting impact.
Scholarship recipients further become part of the Touched by Type 1 community—connecting with peers, serving as ambassadors, sharing their stories, and helping inspire the next generation of individuals living with type 1 diabetes.
Because your diagnosis does not define your future—it helps shape your strength.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the Touched by Type 1 Scholarship Program, applicants must:
• Be a graduating high school senior
• Live with type 1 diabetes
• Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Plan to pursue higher education, vocational training, or a professional certification program following graduation
Application Requirements:
To be considered for a scholarship, applicants must complete the online application and submit the following:
Application Form: Complete all required application questions and supporting materials.
Personal Essay: Share your story, your goals, and how living with type 1 diabetes has shaped your journey.
Awareness Video Submission: Create and publicly post a 60–90 second video on social media answering the question:
"What do you wish the world understood about living with type 1 diabetes?"
Videos should:
• Raise awareness about type 1 diabetes
• Share a personal experience, lesson, or message of encouragement
• Highlight how Touched by Type 1 supports individuals and families living with type 1 diabetes
• Include the hashtag #TouchedByType1 and tag @touchedbytype1
Applicants must provide a link to their video within the application.
Commitment and Expectations
The Touched by Type 1 Scholarship is more than financial support—it is a leadership opportunity.
Scholarship recipients agree to:
• Serve as a Touched by Type 1 Ambassador
• Attend the Touched by Type 1 Annual Conference (September)*
• Participate in scholarship recognition activities
• Support occasional awareness and advocacy initiatives throughout the year
• Represent the mission and values of Touched by Type 1 in a positive and professional manner
*Touched by Type 1 will provide travel and hotel accommodations for scholarship recipients who require travel and lodging to attend the Annual Conference.
Through advocacy, storytelling, and community engagement, scholarship recipients help inspire and support others living with type 1 diabetes while advancing awareness across the country.
