25 Years of Dancing for Diabetes: The Story Behind the Show

For 25 years, Dancing for Diabetes has celebrated the strength of the type 1 diabetes community through performance, storytelling, and purpose.

What began as our founder’s dream has grown into a lifelong mission: to elevate awareness of type 1 diabetes, raise funds to find a cure, and inspire those with diabetes to thrive.

Today, we’re honored to share a brand-new short film that looks back at how the show began — and why it continues to matter.

In this piece, Elizabeth reflects on the early days of the production, how a simple idea turned into a life-changing annual event, and how the community helped shape its growth. You’ll also hear from long-time supporters, including Dr. Walt Griffin, Senator LaVon Bracy Davis, and Hannah — the young woman featured in the award-winning short film Hannah’s Story.

This project was created in collaboration with Hodges Film, our storytelling partner and the team behind the upcoming feature-length documentary Beyond the Diagnosis. Together, we’re shining a brighter light on the real experiences of those living with type 1 diabetes — stories of resilience, hope, and the power of community.

As we celebrate 25 years of Dancing for Diabetes, we’re reminded that this show is more than a production.

It’s connection. It’s impact. It’s a legacy of love and strength built by this incredible community.

Thank you for being here.
